| Абстракт | Wastewater discharge from an accidently damaged submarine pipeline off Cape Khersones (the Black Sea) provided an opportunity to investigate microbial community responses to pulsed coastal pollution. We employed flow cytometry to analyze bacterioplankton and picophytoplankton distributions, combined with light microscopy examination of phytoplankton taxonomic composition across polluted and reference waters. Comparison revealed significantly higher abundances of Synechococcus (up to 3.1 × 104 cells mL−1) and heterotrophic bacteria (up to 0.65 × 106 cells mL−1) in the plume, representing about 3-fold increases relative to peripheral waters. Principal component analysis identified three factors explaining 78% of variance: picophytoplankton physiological state, bacterioplankton variables coupled with phosphate and ammonium (tracing the pollution gradient), and picophytoplankton spatial distribution. Light microscopy of surface phytoplankton was used descriptively: 46 taxa were recorded across the peripheral stations and 30 taxa across the central plume stations, while nanoflagellates contributed >50% to total biomass at one of the two plume stations examined. Vertical distribution patterns showed anomalies, with atypical Synechococcus concentration in warm bottom waters. These findings indicate that wastewater discharge from a damaged pipeline is associated with microbial community restructuring at multiple trophic levels, with changes in phytoplankton biomass structure and altered spatial distributions providing sensitive indicators of pollution stress in coastal ecosystems. |
