Абстракт The purpose of the work was to obtain quantitative characteristics and study the features of the distribution of heterotrophic and hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria in surface waters and bottom sediments of coastal waters in the summer, to investigate the relationship between microbiological indicators and some characteristics of the environment (water temperature, depth, chloroform-extractable substances content, oil hydrocarbons content). The results of assessing of abundance and distribution of heterotrophic and hydrocarbon-oxidizing groups of bacteria in the surface water layer and bottom sediments of the coastal waters of the Crimea peninsula, the Caucasus and the Azov Sea in June 2020 are presented. At the same time studies of bottom sediments (habitat of bacteria) of the coastal regions of the Crimea and the Caucasus, as well as the water area in front of the Kerch Strait, were carried out. New data were obtained on the concentrations of the main organic components of origin in sea bottom sediments: chloroform-extractable substances, oil hydrocarbons. The number of heterotrophic bacteria in water ranged from 102 to 106 cells/mL, and in bottom sediments, from 103 to 106 cells/g. For hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria, oil and diesel fuel were used as the only source of carbon. The data obtained indicate that hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms capable to transform petroleum hydrocarbons are permanent components of plankton and benthos microcenoses. A wide range of number of hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria was noted, due to the microzonal distribution, which depends on the hydrological conditions of the water areas and on the distribution of the substrate itself—hydrocarbons. The concentration of bacteria in bottom sediments differed from that in the aquatic environment. Hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria isolated from water and bottom sediments grew more abundantly on the medium with the addition of oil than on diesel fuel. According to the correlation analysis, there was no significant relationship between the water temperature index and the number of observed groups of bacteria. A positive correlation was found between the content of hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria in the soil and the depth of the sea at sampling stations, between the number of heterotrophic bacteria and hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria in the surface water layer. A slight increase in the concentration of oil hydrocarbons in the bottom sediments of both the Black and Azov Seas and their share in the total amount of chloroform-extractable substances was noted. In general, the level of pollution of bottom sediments with organic substances remained unchanged compare with the data of previous years, in particular, with the data of 2016.
