Абстракт | Studies of macrozoobenthos and meroplankton were performed in Balaklava Bay (the Black Sea) in 2005–2008. Data on the polychaete species composition in soft bottom sediments and polychaete larvae in plankton were obtained. In total, 54 polychaete species belonging to 25 families have been identified. In the benthic communities, 48 polychaete species have been recorded. In plankton, 23 polychaete species have been registered. The families Spionidae (8 species), Phyllodocidae (6), and Nereididae (5) are the most diverse. During the study period, Heteromastus filiformis (Claparède, 1864), Capitella capitata (Fabricius, 1780), and Micronephthys longicornis (Pereyaslavtseva, 1891) were found most frequently in the soft bottom sediments of Balaklava Bay. The frequency of occurrence of these species exceeded 50%. Polychaete larvae belonging to the families Spionidae and Nereididae dominated in plankton. Two species, Sigambra tentaculata (Treadwell, 1941) and Polydora cornuta Bosc, 1802, are invaders in the Black Sea. The average abundance of benthic polychaetes in Balaklava Bay ranged widely, reaching a maximum of 2520 ± 1683 ind./m2 in 2005 and a minimum of 452 ± 162 ind./m2 in 2008. In benthic communities, polychaetes belonging to the family Capitellidae dominated; H. filiformis was the absolute dominant by abundance during entire study period. The number of polychaete species in the benthos of Balaklava Bay (48) was comparable with the data obtained in other bays of southwestern Crimea, Sevastopol Bay (45 species), and Kruglaya Bay (53 species). Polychaete taxocoenes in Balaklava and Sevastopol bays were similar in species composition, dominant species, and relative abundance in total macrozoobenthos.
