Абстракт | In this work, the results of studies on seawater bioluminescence variation in the Atlantic sector of the Antarctic Ocean (Weddell Sea) are presented. The data were collected using the hydrobiophysical system Salpa-M, in February 2020 (122 soundings at 18 stations in cruise 79 of the R/V Academic Mstislav Keldysh). The bioluminescence studies were coupled with the simultaneous measurements of temperature, electrical conductivity, and photosynthetically active radiation; the measurements were compared to the data of plankton sample processing. As a result, it was found that the glow of the Antarctic waters in the photic layer of this region occurs within the range of 8.4·10−12–104.42·10−12 W·cm−2·l−1. Bioluminescence peaks (up to 104 pW·cm−2·l−1) were recorded below the thermocline at a depth of 45 m in the areas of concentration of salps Salpa thompsoni Foxton, 1961, close to the hydrological front at a distance of about 6–7 miles on each side. |
