Абстракт | For identifying the toxic impact of the polychlorinated biphenyls mixture Aroclor 1254 (PCBs) on the rates of bioluminescence of the Black Sea ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi A.Agassiz, 1865, the specimens with a body length of 35-49 cm were caught in the offshore of Sevastopol from August to October 2018. The ctenophores were placed in a check-up aquarium with seawater without any toxicants and into three water tanks with various concentration of PCBs of 1, 10, and 100 μg·l-1 respectively. The exposure in the test group and experimental groups lasted for 15, 30, 40 and 60 minutes. Bioluminescence characteristics of the ctenophores were studied applying “Svet” laboratory complex with mechanical and chemical stimulations. The obtained results demonstrated the PCBs toxic effects in all tanks with different concentration used in the experiment through decreased amplitude and duration of luminescence in comparison with the group in the check-up aquarium. The maximal toxicant impact was demonstrated by sound reduction of the luminescence time by 35% on average after one-hour long exposure with mechanical stimulation of luminescence. The maximum reduction of amplitude by 20 times compared with the test group was noticed at the concentration of PCBs of 1 μg·l-1. It was proved that the high concentration of PCBs leads to disturbance of functional development of Mnemiopsis leidyi. Identified as a result of the experiment, high bioluminescence sensitivity of ctenophores to PCBs impact makes it possible to use them as bio-indicators of this kind of toxicants. |
